Dr. Kweka is the Acting Director of the Globalization project. He has a PhD in economics from the University of Nottingham, a Masters and a Bachelor of Arts (Econ) from the University of Dar es Salaam. He is also a Research Fellow at ESRF where he researches on trade, regional integration issues and Private Sector Development. He is a nominated member of the Task Force on the implementation of the familiar ILO's globalisation project for Tanzania and a member of steering committee on SME development for the Ministry of Industry and Trade. His research interests lie in the area of development economics, mainly trade and regional integration, tourism economics and public sector.
Dr. Kweka has contributed chapters in a couple of published books and reviewed several books in the "Journal of International Development" and the "Journal of Agricultural Economics". He has also published a number of papers locally and internationally on areas of tourism economics, public finance, manufacturing and industrialization, trade and regional integration, and, economic reforms. Dr. Kweka has worked on several consultancy projects under the banner of ESRF for the Government of Tanzania, World Bank, UNIDO, UNDP, ILO, ICTSD etc.; has presented papers in various workshops in and outside Tanzania; and has been a resource person in various seminars. His recent assignments include "the Investment Climate Assessment survey of Tanzania" (for the World Bank); "Identifying Linkages Between Trade and Poverty in Tanzania" (for ODI); and "Industry-Specific Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction" (for UNIDO).
